There is a proposal to fill nearly 200 acres of wetlands on Cainhoy for a new development, which would WIPE OUT so many amazing creatures and their homes! The Endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker, the Endangered Northern Long-Eared Bat AND the Endangered Hooded Pitcherplant all call Cainhoy home!
Cainhoy peninsula is one of the largest and most ecologically sensitive properties in the Charleston area. It’s HUGE! with lots and lots of uplands. The developers are committed to their sprawling suburban development plans when in fact this project could be done with fewer impacts to our wetlands. We need your help! By urging Charleston City Council and the Mayor to protect Cainhoy, by improving a development agreement they signed with the property’s landowners 30 years ago, we can update these plans to be far less damaging!
